Set 5 – Outside Gil’s Flat

This set is for Terry’s next door neighbour, so needed to be in the outer corridor of a block of flats. To achieve this I made a heavy base out of wood and supported by several braces. There are areas built behind the outer façade so that we can see partly into Gil’s flat. I then papiermached the whole build and painted it using a sponge technique to make the brick pattern.

I made and painted an accessible inside of Gil’s flat, so that I could animate some action inside - this needed to be an enclosed space, so that I could control the light differently, but needed to be supported and practically accessible for access to the puppet. To achieve this, I built two small rooms with cardboard lids that I could slide on and off between takes.

I added small details like guttering, letter boxes and a locked up bicycle.
