Set 6 – The Train
Definitely the most ambitious of the sets, and the one I made last.
I had planned several shots on a train, both underground and above ground. I built the train carriage out of two paintbuckets which I cut windows out of and papiermached.
I made seats out of cardboard and some scrap material. I also designed several adverts to stick on the carriage walls – these could be easily unattached and swapped for other adverts for when I wanted to show that the otherside of the carriage was being filmed, or for when we are looking into a different train altogether.
To show movement, a converyerbelt of brick wall was outside of the underground carriage window, and for the overground scene I had several building and tree props which I would move by at different increments depending on their degree of perspective from the window. The carriage itself was set in drilled in blocks of wood to a plywood base, allowing me to move it and adjust it as the camera stayed still, so simulating the wobble of a train ride.
